History: | Named for Leschi, the last Nisqually chief (b. 1808), who spent his life camping, hunting, and fishing in the Nisqually River delta. He was often called upon to settle disagreements among his tribesmen. In February 1858 he accused of murder and hanged, but in 2004, he was exonerated of the crime by the State of Washington |
